The Traditional and The Non
Traditional Irish music, also called traditional Irish folk music, is easy to recognize. It tends to focus on vocals, and to use only a few instruments to provide music as a counterpoint. Often confused with Celtic music (and sometimes mis-labeled as Celtic music) traditional Irish music's themes and sound are unique to the emerald isle.
Modern Irish Music
Non-traditional Irish music tends to keep the themes and rhythm of the folk music, but mixes it with other styles as well. Irish rock comes in a variety of flavors, including punk rock (with bands like the Dropkick Murphys), alternative, and even Irish metal music. Even when Irish music blends with other genres it's typically very recognizable because of the touch stones and sounds it keeps even when bringing in electric guitars and drum solos.
